Gareth was born in 1947 in a village called Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen in the Upper Swansea Valley. His father Glan was a miner and his mam was called Annie-Mary. Gareth used to run up and down the coal tips to keep fit. He played Rugby for Wales 53 consecutive times and went on three tours with the British and Irish Lions.
He played his first match for Wales at 19 and captained his country at age 20. Gareth retired from Rugby aged 31.
Gareth and his gorgeous wife Maureen have two sons and four grandchildren.
Between the ages of 15-35 Gareth played for his country, bought his first car, bought his first house, married and had children. Gareth is now 77 and wants to help support young people who are going through Cancer at this young age. He said "When I played for Wales we always played as a team. If one person was struggling we were all there ready to support them. This is what I would like to do with this charity. I have so much admiration for young people who go through such an extremely difficult time at this pivotal, life shaping time of their lives. They have no choice in the matter and their strength is immense. I want them to know that we are thinking of them and we are behind them'
